Blog Assignment #2 Meow
 |
First Observation |
 |
Second Observation |
- What did you choose to observe? Why did you choose to observe this. I chose to observe my cat rambler! I chose to observe him because I'm with him all the time when I'm at home, he loves to cuddle and follow me around the house when I'm on the move. So he seemed like a very easy target.
- How long did you choose to observe your organism. I observed this organism multiple times. First this morning before I left the house, then again when I got home. In total I think I observed rambler a total of 35 minutes!
- Describe your observation and note at least 3 specific things that you observed. During my observations he didn't show very much activity. The first time rambler was sitting on my bed looking out the window, but you could tell when a bird flew by, as his head would move from one side to the other, and then look back at me. I noticed he loves watching birds but doesn't attempt to swat at them like he does bugs. Instead he sits intently and watches. I also observed that after his bird observations got more on the boring side that he left.. so I followed him and watched him drink some water out of his blue water bowl, only to return to his spot on my bed and go to sleep. The second time I observed him he was passed out on an old chair we have. He is very quite when he sleeps. During this time period I observed that his ears would occasionally twitch and quite moans occasionally left his body, other than that he seems to be content with his life.
- Are there any abiotic factors that influenced your observation? If so, what are they. In this observation there were many abiotic factors such as the water he was drinking, the blankets he laid on and the chair he later slept on!
- Would you change anything about your mode of observation the next time you do it? I don't think I would change my mode of observation, except for maybe get some kitty cuddles in the process.
- Write at least 3 scientific questions based on your observation.
- Does a human presence affect the cats sleep schedule?
- Does he only sleep while were here, so that when we are asleep or busy they can run over our toes?
- Why do cats drink so much water?
- Is a cat ever not ready for a nap?
- Write 1 hypothesis based on the questions above. Cats base their sleep schedules off of the presence of human beings, so that when the human is asleep much noise can be created as to show their presence.
First off, so cute!!! Rambler is adorable! I haven't had a cat since I was little so I found your questions & hypothesis really interesting because I'm not around them very often. I do have a dog though, and I don't think the hypothesis would apply to her because she tries to get me to go to sleep early and wakes up later than me!
